Country Initiatives

One aspect of the Ponseti Method that makes it particularly well-suited for developing countries is its simplicity. Although pediatric orthopedic specialists have been the principal developers and promoters of this treatment technique, physical therapists, nurses, cast technicians, orthopedic officers, and other properly trained healthcare workers have shown that they can successfully perform the manipulations and/or apply the casts. Therefore, a lack of physicians in highly populated, poor developing countries is not a significant obstacle to providing high-level clubfoot treatment. In an effort to address the disability of clubfoot on a national level, many countries institute country-wide programs of clubfoot training, treatment, and research. These countries are listed here with links to more information about the programs occurring in each country.
