Training Dissemination

Currently, PIA is actively participating in both official and unofficial training programs through partnerships with government, education, NGOs, and community-based institutions in over 45 countries around the world and has provided training about the Ponseti Method in over 60 countries. Three approaches have been identified as being the most successful. These three approaches are not mutually exclusive and elements from each have been combined as necessary for a particular situation.

Regional Ponseti Hubs Model

  • Interested healthcare professionals
  • Sent by country’s medical society, ministry, organization, NGO
  • Spend 2-4 weeks at established Regional Ponseti Hubs
  • Work with experienced providers, treating 20-30 patients
  • Return to their home country or institution for 6-12 months
  • Attend follow-up workshop(s) and receive (on-line) mentoring
  • Become new core faculty for training others in their country after one year

In-Residence Model

  • Experienced trainer is invited for 2-4 week stay in-country
  • Trainer works with core clinical group, including non-physicians and support staff
  • Trainer helps to establish a working clinic
  • Trainer returns to the institution in 4-6 months for follow-up and (on-line) mentoring
  • Become new core faculty for training others in their country after one year

Large Scale In-Country Model

  • 4-5 international trainers conduct a 2-day in-country workshop for 20 interested health professionals
  • Workshop participants return to their clinics to implement what they have learned, supported by (on-line) mentoring
  • After six months, selected participants attend a follow-up workshop
  • After one year, those participants who have demonstrated clinical success become new core faculty for training others in their country
